Growing up as a girl, I belonged to the woods—mud and moss, frogs in my hands, salamanders slipping through wet leaves. I spent long hours listening to what the land was saying without needing to name it. As I got older, life asked me to be practical, composed, and productive. That wild, instinctive part of me didn’t disappear, but it dimmed, as if it had been asked to live indoors.

Motherhood reawakened her. When my son arrived, something ancient in me came back online, not as an idea but as a deep knowing. I felt my spiritual life become less separate and more essential. Still, I tried to push through postpartum as many of us do. I told myself I could carry it all, return to the grind, keep the house running, stay strong. The result was depletion and anxiety, with a louder underlying message: this is not how mothers are meant to heal.

That was the turning point. I learned to ask for help, to build a village in the ways I could, and to lean on ancient wisdom that treats postpartum as a sacred recovery, not a performance. I became a student again, discovered Traditional Chinese Medicine, and changed how I cooked, rested, and rebuilt my vitality. Finnegan’s Apothecary was born from that renewal, named after my son who brought me back to my true self.
